Series 12
Guides 3
- Engine power vs PTO power — Makers quote engine power; work is done at the shaft. The gap is real, it is not a constant, and on one machine in five it runs the other way.
- Unladen weight or maximum? — Unladen mass is what the tractor weighs empty. Permissible maximum is what it may weigh loaded. Mixing them up is how a machine ends up over its own limit.
- Which serial number? — Tractor, engine, transmission or axle: which serial number answers which question, why the year is not enough, and when a serial gives the year.
Tools
- Implement matcher — what a tractor of a given power can pull.
- Cost per hour — what a machine costs to run, per hour worked.
- PTO hp list — every tractor here a laboratory measured at the shaft, with the maker’s engine claim beside it.
